Entrants for the 31st Rally Guanajuato Mexico have been released with Citroen’s Craig Breen being the most notable absentee from the 29-car list. The Irishman and co-driver Scott Martin will return to action at the French rally in Corsica next month as Citroen will only field two cars during the first gravel event of the season.
In a statement on his Facebook page, Breen said it was a decision the team made prior to the 2017 season.
Elsewhere WRC Trophy competitor Valeriy Gorban will compete in Mexico in his Mini Cooper World Rally Car while privateer Lorenzo Bertelli will compete in a factory M-Sport Ford Fiesta over the three days.
In WRC-2, Pontus Tidemand is Skoda Motorsport’s sole representative after his win at home in Sweden two weeks ago. He will have M-Sport’s Eric Camilli to contend with along with 2012 Production World Rally champion Benito Guerra, who makes his 2017 bow in his home rally. Hubert Ptaszek and Chilean Pedro Heller are the only other WRC-2 competitors while no WRC-3 entries have been received. This is mainly due to logistical costs of flying from Europe to Mexico only to come back to Europe straight away for the Tour de Corse.
Rally Mexico gets underway on the 10th March and will wrap up on the 12th.
